"Travel Beyond the Crypt" will be the name of my new Gothic Travel series on this blog, I hope you enjoy!
The other week I went to London for a few days before heading onto Paris for my birthday. It was totally unplanned but it turns out one of the cemeteries on my "to-visit" list, Brompton Cemetery, was literally a 5 minute walk from my hotel.

Brompton Cemetery can be found at Fulham Rd, Kensington, London SW10 9UG and is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries built in a ring around London in the 1830s (Brompton Cemetery was buitl in 1840) to ease the city's overcrowded cemeteries after burials in the city had been banned and provide park space in the capital.

I absolutely love the red flowers set on the first grave on the left, it provided such a lovely contrast in colour and material to the statue.

Brompton Cemetery is home to over 35,000 graves, a chapel and catacombs. I've only just learned about the catacombs under Brompton Cemetery but apparently according to this website, there is a tour on the annual open day of Brompton Cemetery but the tour of the catacombs is not very long and you're unable to go around most of the corridors.

One of the entrances to the catacombs above. They hold walking tours of the above ground burials on the second and fourth Sunday of every month.

There are some lovely graves, mausoleums and statues in Brompton Cemetery, but a few places were under renovation and closed off, and a lot of the area was unkempt with long grass, burial places were overrun with ivy and long grass so I hope they're tidying the cemetery up whilst they're doing renovations.
Have you ever been to Brompton Cemetery? Since I started blogging again, I'd really appreciate any relevant support, like comments, sharing or following me! I'm looking to follow more Gothic blogs if anyone still even blogs any more haha - if you have a Gothic or alternative blog, leave it in the comment section below and I'd love to check it out!
