Lolita Blog Carnival: My Favourite Indie Brands

Hello everyone! Yay, another Lolita Blog Carnival post! I'm sorry to confess that I said I was going to do the last couple of posts and then declined at the last minute because I thought I had more time than I did! T_T I suck! But I can bring it back (hopefully) with this post, my favourite indie brands! I think this was an option I added a while back but I can't remember and don't want to say in case it wasn't! XD So, what are "indie" Lolita brands? They are usually brands that aren't Japanese designer Lolita, like Angelic Pretty or Baby, The Stars Shine Bright and they aren't handmade either. They are small brands that have a customer base, are usually less expensive than Japanese main brands and aren't as well known (but aren't completely unheard of either!) More popular Taobao shops are classed as indie brand, like Kidsyoyo, HMHM and Surface Spell! So what are my favourites?

The 69th Department (Taobao)

The 69th Department sells amazingly gorgeous Gothic and Classic style Lolita clothes and look very well made and have great prices, common for Taobao stores. They are so elegant and feminine - I bought a blouse from them and even though it was slightly too small, it was very beautiful and high quality.

Classical Puppets (Taobao)

Ah, Classical Puppets - well known makers of some of the most awesome petticoats around, I have yet to sample their other items like dresses and blouses but they look astounding! They even have a new line of Lolita clothes inspired by Steampunk too, like the ensemble above! Surely for a great maker of petticoats, their other items must match up too? I would love to buy from them at some point.

Anna House

Anna House was one of the first places I bought my first few Lolita items! I got them from Dolly Poddle and ordered three skirts and a blouse. I ordered two Sweet style skirts to experiment with styles but found Sweet isn't to my taste so sold them shortly after. I still have the skirt and blouse though and wear them often. Anna House are very good quality and well priced - they must have risen in the ranks since I last browsed their website though, as they have a slightly updated website and lovelier stock photos! Dolly Poddle lives around 15 mins away from the brick-and-mortar Anna House store in Hong Kong (or she did last time I placed an order!) and may be able to save on shipping and prices so please check her out for lovely Anna House designs!

R-Series (Taobao)

R-Series are another Taobao store/brand I haven't been able to try yet but they are one of the most sold on secondhand forums for indie brands and their pieces always sell fast, both on Taobao and the comms. They are also very up to date and even though they don't have tons of items up for sale all the time, they release new lines periodically, like the Odette Mansion line the JSK above is from! You can get everything from the JSK, blouse, hat and even gloves to go with it!

Rose Melody (Taobao)

When I did my first Taobao order, I wanted the Merry-Go-Round print they had just released immensely. Unfortunately it was limited edition and by the time I asked the shopping service agent for it, they had ran out of the fabric and would not be getting any more in. Every single dress I see them do is amazingly beautiful and ornate, perfect for Gothic and Classic styles. This dress is very popular and I actually have some of this fabric myself - I will definitely be ordering more to make myself something out of! All their accessories to match are beautiful too and indeed, all the items look like brand!

Okay, so most of them were Taobao and I did wonder about including Fanplusfriend in there too but to be honest, I think they are a little overpriced for what they sell! But you know who is also as great as indie brands? Small handmade businesses such as Starlight Deco Dream, Cute Can Kill and of course, 8th Sin Creations! ;-) That concludes my favourite indie brands so now please check out the other participants of this week's Lolita Blog Carnival! We are a small group of Lolita bloggers who vote and write about a topic each week!

    1. Yes, mine too - I know how you feel! I still wear the grey gingham skirt from them all the time! It's so well made, high quality and gorgeous! They are most definitely still in business - I would love to buy from them again at some point. Thanks so much for your comment! <3

  4. You should really check out Chess Story on Taobao! They're one of my new favourite shops. I have two skirts by them and several other items. The quality of the skirts and prints themselves are very similar to Angelic Pretty. Their Starry Night Angel skirt is to die for! http://chess-story.taobao.com/
